Time
to Tee it Up - The Golf Page
Wow,
where do we start? Well if it's golf you're after then you've come to
the right place. There are so many courses within the Orlando area
that cater for all handicap levels. From beginners to the scratch
golfer, most courses will have 4 or 5 tee boxes so that everyone will
enjoy their round.
We've
listed some of our personal favorites here for you, and further down
the page you will find links to a whole number of others that are
both private members courses (which normally means you have to be
invited to play there by a member), or public courses that everyone
can enjoy. However, don't be fooled by the term "public course".
These courses will be a match for anything you'll find anywhere else
in the world in terms of their quality ...... and don't forget that
most have a buggy, (or cart), included in the price of the round.
The
Pro shops at all these courses are usually very well stocked and
normally carry rental clubs and golf shoes for hire. Phone ahead if
you aren't taking your own with you to ensure these are available.
A
word of advice. When you have decided on where you want to play,
either go online to that course website (quite a few offer online tee
time reservation systems) and reserve a tee time or call the pro shop
directly. During the summer months the most popular time for a round
is anything between 7am (or earlier) and 10am and tee times are at a
premium for 2 reasons. Firstly, it gets very hot once the sun has
come up in Florida in the summer and they do tend to get the odd
sharp thunder storm during the afternoon around 3pm. Secondly, if
you've tee'd off by 7am you should be back by 11am and you can then
keep the rest of the family happy by doing all the theme parks for
the rest of the day. The other alternative is to look for twilight
offers that normally start from 4-5pm onwards when green fees are
reduced.
Don't
forget to ask whether the greens have been or are scheduled to be top
dressed and hollow tined when you plan to play. They do tend to have
particular times of year when this maintenance takes place. And
finally, if you are taking your own golf shoes please be aware that
most courses only allow soft spikes.

The
Orlando Golf Map
As
you can see from the map below our property "South Palms"
is located just towards the bottom left hand corner above Champions
Gate which is literally 5 minutes away. Highlands Reserve, (see
review above), isn't shown on this map as our house is right on top
of it but that is even closer and about 1 mile away. All the Disney
courses detailed above are about 15 minutes away from the property
and are represented by the trademark Mickey ears of Walt Disney World
to the right of our property. And as you can see nearly all of the
courses shown are a maximum of 45 minutes to 1 hour away. But please
be aware, there are many more courses in the area covered by this map
that have not been included.
